Assemblyman
Darryl C. Towns (D-Brooklyn)
is a 1990 graduate of North Carolina A&T State University.
In 1993, he began his illustrious political career representing residents
of the culturally diverse community in which he was raised. During his
tenure in the New York State Assembly, he has earned a well-deserved
reputation for working diligently on behalf of his constituents. In
fact, his ANCHOR Program bill, which was unanimously supported in both
houses of the New York State Legislature, will bolster commercial revitalization
in residential communities throughout New York City and support increased
housing developments.
He is Chair of the New York State Assembly Legislative Commission on
Science and Technology and Chair of the Subcommittee on Mass Transit.
He also serves on several Assembly Committees, including Banks, Children
and Families, Health, Mental Health, Transportation, and Veterans’
Affairs. Additionally, he is an active member of the National Black
Caucus for State Legislators, New York State Black, Puerto Rican and
Hispanic Legislative Caucus, and the New York State Assembly and Senate
Hispanic/Puerto Rican Task Force.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Assemblyman Towns served as
the director of community affairs at Brooklyn’s Interfaith Hospital
prior to his political career. He resides in Brooklyn with his wife,
Karen Boykin-Towns and their two daughters, Jasmine and Trinity.
